RAD Data Communications
Established in 1981, privately held RAD Data Communications is internationally recognized as a leading manufacturer of network access equipment for data communications and telecommunications applications. RAD solutions reduce infrastructure and operational costs while boosting competitiveness and profitability of both mature circuit-based networks and next generation Ethernet/IP/MPLS access topologies.
2005 Results, 2006 Trends
The company’s sales growth and bookings activity in 2005 reflected balanced product development efforts, strong channel results over a broad geographical area, significant repeat customer purchases, and respectable market penetration for devices released at the end of the year. Total revenues reached $150 million in 2005, an increase of more than 10 percent over the previous year’s figures, while orders in 2005 rose 14 percent over 2004. This upward trend is expected to accelerate in the coming years as the company rolls out additional product solutions that support multiple services over a variety of physical interfaces and across different network protocols and technologies.
Indeed, as the migration to Ethernet/MPLS/IP packet-switched networks from access networks engineered primarily to handle circuit-based traffic is likely to continue for some time, the challenge confronting the industry will be to ensure that broadband voice, data and video services can be delivered seamlessly to the user with end-to-end quality assurance regardless of the transport network infrastructure. Simultaneously, with the acceptance and implementation of reliable circuit emulation services, TDM and other legacy protocols will be supported over converged next generation access networks for some time to come.
